From sprawling ranchettes to city view golf communities to cabins in the forest, the variety of choice in South Suburban Reno is astounding. Mountain views and the convenient location, between Lake Tahoe and central Reno, make this area an attractive location for homebuyers and includes some the most exclusive neighborhoods in town.
Old South suburban, what is sometimes called the Kentucky countryside of Reno, is on the south side of McCarran, down Lakeside Drive and over the hill to Huffaker Lane. This delightful, horsey neighborhood features spacious rambling ranch homes on multi-acre lots, many with their own ponds, pastures and barns. The area backs to forest service land providing plenty of trail riding for local residents. This area has five golf courses, but four of them reside within gated communities. Montreux, a private golf community, is the site for the PGA’s Reno-Tahoe Open held in August. New trailheads were built in 2003 and there are several parks, a public library branch and the South Valleys sports field complex nearby.
Fieldcreek is a lovely neighborhood in the Southwest area of Reno, Fieldcreek offers a great location with beautiful views and a great range of homes and pricing. Galena Forest, a neighborhood at a higher level, is located off of Mt. Rose Highway and offers the beauty of Galena Creek and the trees of Galena Forest. Bordering the Toiyabe National Forest, it is the perfect location for those who enjoy hiking, biking, and skiing. This community provides the ideals of mountain living along with the gorgeous custom homes and homesites – the majority of which are one half acre to one acre in size. Some of the properties in Galena Forest have homeowners associations yet others do not.
